His hands, thick as baseball mitts...

"One of the zoo's smallest gorillas, Cecil lay still while the dentists worked and veterinarians looked for any signs of ill health. His hands, thick as baseball mitts, lay still at his sides as doctors and students worked.

Cecil went through days of training to learn how to present his shoulder for a shot of anesthesia. The training culminated Wednesday when Cecil received his first injection, said zookeeper Drew Koch.

"He's a very fast learner," Koch said. Zookeepers said Cecil can clap his hands, paint pictures and dribble a basketball."
