Random word association #7: Tightrope

I couldn't choose between these two.

The adventures of Ham, space chimp

From somewhere else on the internet:

"Ham (chimpanzee): (U.S. 1961) Ham had been trained to perform tasks and was sent up in a Mercury capsule to test the theory that monkeys could function in space.

Problems arose, and Ham was subjected to a longer weightless period than planned. The capsule also flew severely off course. Ham, however, did as he was told perfectly.

Because of the capsule was so off course, it didn't land anywhere near the rescue ships. The capsule capsized and water poured in. Just before it totally submerged, Navy helicopter pilots lifted the craft out of the water. Ham survived the ordeal and was retired in 1963 to the zoo."

Sounds like a film / comic / game waiting to be made.

Paris goes to boarding school

From somewhere on the internet:

"The main facility, “Baboon boarding school” as McKenzie- Fraser calls it, is based in Phalaborwa but she takes special cases to her home in Douglasdale.

“I help to de-traumatise the baboon and then send it to boarding school, where it will learn to function in a troop,” she explained of the five year programme which Paris has just begun.

“She was such a pretty baby,” said McKenzie-Fraser, explaining why she chose the name Paris."

Unfortunately, a picture of Paris the pretty baboon baby was unavailable at time of going to press.

Monkey vs Lemur

"The ultimate battle for primate supremacy continues this spring with a new collection of Monkey in a Wagon vs. Lemur on a Big Wheel. "

Comics are bonkers. I like them.

Photoshopped Monkeys

I think this is my favourite.

Many other classics here.

She's now on 40 dumplings a day...

From somewhere on the internet:

"China’s Xinhua news agency reported in October that Ai Ai, the veteran chimp at the safari park in Shaanxi province, who is 27 years old and who started smoking cigarette butts at age 11 when her first mate died, has finally kicked her nicotine habit. Zoo officials attributed her success to distractions such as exercise, music (via a Walkman “borrowed” from a keeper), and better food, such as fried dishes and dumplings."

I'd buy that monkey for a dollar! #5

"Celebrate the success of Ang Lee's Brokeback Mountain with this charming pair of cowboy monkeys!"

Actually, I made that up, but that's how I would've listed it...

Virtual love monkey roses

You couldn't make this sort of thing up.

We've had the largest, now the smallest

(Unless, of course, that keyring is actually 3 feet in diameter)

Monkey trading

From somewhere on the internet:

"The contest falls in line with others aiming to provide entertainment while proving new investment strategies. The Wall Street Journal, for example, hosts an annual contest in which a blindfolded monkey throws darts at the Journal's financial page in order to select a profitable portfolio."

Singing sock monkey mayhem

His cover of Sk8r Boi is particularly touching.

Goldilocks and the 3 baboons

From somewhere on the internet:

"But on Tuesday, [Quizzy the baboon] captured the limelight all by himself when he sauntered into the Echo Terrace guest house in Echo Road, above Sunny Cove, pulled out a dining room chair and sat at the dining room table while he helped himself to the fruit bowl.

Then he casually walked up the stairs and tried out one of the beds for a while, before heading outside to finish off his mango."

"There has been several dramatic sightings of a hairy, gorilla-like creature reported in the thick forest in the southern state of Johor in Malaysia."

Er...maybe it's a gorilla...

Curious George is coming...

...a fact President Bush is no doubt delighted about.
